WWE's Backlash Didn't Impress

The 2 main championships that everyone was looking forward to didn't switch hands

If you watched Wrestle Mania Backlash last night you know the only two important matches were the Universal Championship and the WWE Championship. And both didn’t disappoint, but they also didn’t blow me away.

Roman Reigns and Cesaro were the main event, but before them, the ring held a capacity of 923lbs. Yes! You read that correctly, less than 100lbs away from 1,000lbs. The title match consists of Bobby Lashley, who was and spoiler still is the holder of the title. Going up against Drew McIntyre and my personal favorite, Braun Strowman.

The match didn’t consist of anything extraordinary that would have had the crowds jumping out of their seats if they weren’t all watching virtually. But it did consist of some surprises, for other wrestlers. There's no doubt Drew McIntyre brought his A-game, and it's clear Braun Strowman saw that. I give him props for the number of times he picked up Strowman, who carried most of the ring weight. After McIntyre slammed Lashley through one of the big screens and sparks flew we thought that would be the last of him. It actually was, when the camera, as well as McIntyre, looked into the huge hole he was gone. Strowman and McIntyre continued the match taking up most of the on-air time. It wasn’t until the absolute end when everyone probably thought McIntyre had the match in his bag that Lashley reappeared out of nowhere, throws McIntyre out of the ring, and steals the pin on Strowman. It was quite smart if you think of it, he laid low, let Strowman and McIntyre wear each other out then when he knew someone was gonna get the pin he jumps in tosses them out, and takes the win. It’s no surprise some fans found that annoying.

Another thing that didn’t seem to sit well with fans was the Universal Championship match between Roman Reigns and Cesaro. Without a doubt, Cesaro definitely showed his potential. He really gave Reigns a fight, there were many moments when I’m sure fans probably thought he could have won despite the damage Reigns did to his right arm. However, I knew Reigns was gonna win; WWE started the storyline of a family affair, writing in his twin cousins. The writers will definitely want to milk that as much as they can. I would actually find it even more entertaining if they decided to include Nia Jax and Tamina, and make it a whole family affair.

Overall, the two main titles of the night did not switch hands and that was a downer.
