Why Traveling During the Corona Crisis is Ignorant

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past few days, you are most likely aware of what's going on with our nation's landscape. A global pandemic known as the Coronavirus has swept over the nation and millions of people have been stopped in their figurative tracks. As we stand today, sports are at a virtual standstill, universities around the nation are shut down and a virus that first put its fingerprints on China has now tightened its grip on the United States.

While I could sit here and advise you all to wash your hands on a daily basis, I feel as it would be much more knowledgable and informative to touch on something else. During the past few days, whether it is on Snapchat, Instagram or Twitter, I have been seeing different groups of Coeds travel the world by either flight, land or sea. Brittany from Harvard is taking her spring break to Miami and Chad from Mississippi State is visiting his frat bros from Cali.

While this may seem like an awesome time to travel, as plane tickets are as cheap as an extreme couponer, I am here to tell you that it is absolutely not. See, what these college kids are failing to realize is that by traveling to a different state, they are putting not only themselves at risk, but others in harm's way as well. COVID-19 is such a contagious ailment that a simple cough or sneeze can lead to a mass spreading of the virus. To travel during these circumstances is selfish, ignorant and in many ways, careless.

In three weeks, when Brittany's grandma is deathly ill, I hope that $35 plane ticket to Miami was truly worth it.
