Why FIFA choosing Qatar to host 2022 World Cup Deserves Criticism

Qatar is set to host the 2022 World Cup in December of 2022. The World Cup will always be arguably the best international sporting tournament with the respective competitive parity it displays over its two to three week span, but the upcoming World Cup is not considerably favorable to many.
The 2021 (technically 2020) UEFA European Championship and Copa America tournaments came up with two exciting final matches that brought a returning sense of normalcy to not just countries competing in the tournaments, but also in other parts of the world.
Especially to the winners of both tournaments, Argentina(Copa America) and Italy(Euros) both were rewarded with their national teams overcoming certain adversities that have plagued the national teams for a while. With the Euros and Copa America done, international football waits until December of 2022 when the World Cup will be held in Qatar.
A World Cup is always something to anticipate and look forward to, but Qatar 2022 is met with negative reception from many fans. For one, there is known controversy about slave workers being used to help build the stadiums and there have been rumors of some of these workers even dying due to poor labor conditions.
Add in the fact that the 2022 World Cup was forced to reschedule the tournament from the summer to late November/December because of Qatar’s inability to build “air-conditioned” stadiums for the country’s extreme summer temperatures.
The negative controversy around migrant workers and social issues around Qatar is already frustrating for many fans, but then the tournament being moved to the winter is another complaint since the World Cup in the summer has basically become a tradition that works for everyone worldwide.
The winter tournament will also affect many of the top commercial leagues and its players since league plays is usually ongoing during those weeks. Therefore, some of these leagues will probably be forced to change their own schedules to adjust to the World Cup time-frame.
Overall, FIFA’s selecting a country like Qatar over countries with better infrastructure to host this type of event like Japan, Australia, South Korea and the United States exposes the federation’s questionable decisions over the past couple of years.
Over the years it just seems FIFA has shifted away from providing the best quality football for the fans of the game and are corrupted into obtaining their own self-interests when making decisions.
To be clear, the regular citizens of Qatar should feel proud of this rare opportunity and people shouldn't take away this tournament from them or the players, countries, and fans involved. It's just the stories that have been spread about Qatar, its government, and the questionable decisions made by FIFA to select Qatar is something people are really frustrated about.
The World Cup can still be enjoyable and let's hope even with the controversies that Qatar 2022 can deliver a euphoric atmosphere to its games like it usually is in every tournament.
