Watch Out for the Red Herring That's Flying Around

On Tuesday November 14, Attorney General Jeff Sessions was grilled and questioned by The House Judiciary Committee on a myriad of issues, including the 2016 Presidential Campaign and whether or not Trump was in league with Russia during that time. The answers he gave (or lack there-of) were enough to raise suspicions, yet the Trump Administration and the GOP seem to be focusing on one thing: Hillary Clinton.

During the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump was so keen on reminding everybody about Hillary Clinton's ties to Russia (and other scandals that may or may not have happened) that, I believe, it led to him winning the presidency. That's not to say that Hillary ran a clean cut race either, because I believe that the 2016 election was a smear campaign on both sides and I also have no doubts to corruption on her side as well. That being said, it's still very important to not look in the direction that Donald Trump's administration is pointing us in.

While whatever Hillary has done when she was Secretary of State regarding e-mails or her alleged Uranium One deal is definitely something to focus on, and I do believe that she needs to be held accountable for it all, the GOP seems to be trying to divert our attention to her when it's not an applicable subject to be paying attention to, seeing as she isn't the president, nor is she in charge of anything in the Senate. The GOP is now in charge, and it's abundantly clear that they are not interested in being held accountable for exactly the same thing that Hillary has been accused of — the only difference is they are in charge of the American public, and the fact that the American people are in the dark regarding Russia in general, it's imperative to focus on what they aren't saying.

The whole Democrat vs. Republican debate is dividing us, and having that mentality does not help in figuring out the truth. Whenever I see either Trump or any one of his cabinet members being asked about ties to Russia they almost always bring up Hillary Clinton, which takes the heat off of them. Now, they obviously aren't going to say anything that might diminish their party, so they are going to remind us that Hillary has been accused as well — which should make us suspicious and we need to realize that they are diverting our attention.

President Trump is still trying to campaign against Hillary even though he has won the election. She has absolutely nothing to do with what's going on now and I urge us all to not focus on what Trump and his administration are trying to get us to focus on. Whether you are a Democrat or Republican it does not matter; the fact that the GOP are not holding themselves accountable to alleged collusion with another country says quite a lot. They are using a popular illogical fallacy — bringing up an issue that really doesn't have anything to do with the problems at hand. I think it's worth putting out there that we have an administration that isn't being truthful to the American people. We must remember to always stay vigilant in our quest to find out what's really going on and to also play the devil's advocate, no matter what your views are.
