VIDEO: The Jerusalem Controversy, Explained
This easy-to-watch video might help explain the conflict for you. At least it's a start.
This video, by VOX, is what is called in the trade, an "explainer" video.
By definition, explainer videos try and keep things very simple, and I'm sure much nuance is left out of the video.
The roots of the conflict go back thousands of years, and so explaining it all in five minutes is attempting the impossible.
But for those of us who don't follow the Israeli/Palestinian conflict closely, this is as good a starting place as any:
While I make NO claims to understanding the Middle East, it has always seemed to me a two-state solution gives each side enough of what it wants that maybe that would calm things down a bit.
It does seem like continuing to carry on the status quo, which everyone has been doing for decades -- hasn't accomplished much, leaving both sides unhappy.
That something new is being tried might lead to a breakthrough of sorts. We'll see.
