Tucker Carson's "Ship of Fools": How a Selfish Ruling Class is Bringing America to the Brink of Revolution

Like Jordan Peterson, Tucker Carlson believes you should show that you can clean up your room before you “save the planet.” He holds views similar to Bill Clinton’s “Double Bubba” 1992 platform, calling for good jobs at good wages. But he says Democrats are now a Party of the Rich, whose liberal “meritocrats” became the “establishment” they pretended to despise.

Like Jordan Peterson, Tucker Carlson believes you should show that you can clean up your room before you “save the planet.”

His views in Ship of Fools are similar to Bill Clinton’s “Double Bubba” 1992 platform, calling for good jobs at good wages, but he says Democrats are now a Party of the Rich, whose liberal “meritocrats” became the Establishment they pretended to despise, feeling little responsibility for fellow citizens left behind.

Noblesse without the Oblige...

“The disaster began when almost everyone in power joined the same team,” Carlson says. “They agree with each other. They just don’t agree with the population they govern… The people in charge are free to pursue policies that are disconnected from the public good but that have, not coincidentally, made them richer, more powerful, and much more self-satisfied.”

Bottom Line: “Our leaders are fools, unaware that they are captains of a sinking ship.” He makes a quick work of Max Boot, Chelsea Clinton, Ta-Nehesi Coates, and Bill Kristol.

While they pretend to be a meritocracy, the bipartisan elite cannot solve simple problems. They have proven themselves incompetent and unprincipled, yet clinging to power.

Once anti-war, they instead agitate for ruinous international conflict and regime change, either out of blind idealism or lust for power. “Liberals were no longer interested in giving peace a chance,” he writes. Trump got his only good press when he bombed Syria under duress.

Once a free-speech advocate, the ACLU now fights dissent on behalf of the ruling class. “If you’re going to run a country for the benefit of a few,” Carlson explains, “it’s dangerous to let people complain about it.”

Since they pretend to care more about transgender bathrooms than middle-class problems like closed factories, wage stagnation, mass immigration, opioid epidemics or foolish wars, the ruling class is moving America towards a Venezuelan-style social structure of “rulers and serfs” rather than equal citizenship.

The American press has “lost interest in holding government accountable” because they share the same class interests, which include “diversity” instead of patriotism.

“Nobody in Barack Obama’s world even pretends there is even one America,” notes Carlson, warning, “when white people become another interest group fighting for the spoils, America as we’ve known it is over."

Most compelling is Carlson’s section on the crisis of the American male, which details attacks on “toxic masculinity” by radical feminists to institutionalize the principle that “girls thrive when boys fail.”  The result: poor educational achievement, lower incomes, reduced life expectancy, increased drug addiction, even diminished testosterone levels.

Carlson complains, “Nobody’s been forced to explain why boys, who are already failing, need to be held back further.”

Ship of Fools concludes that the solution to America’s problems is not elite enforcement of political correctness by suppressing democracy, but to revive democracy by ending it. Instead of claiming to “save the planet,” the elite could begin by regularly picking up trash Carlson sees piled up in national parks.

That would really be “making a difference.”
