Trump: Crazy Like a Fox?

Senator Dianne Feinstein is on the receiving end of a Twitter blast from Donald Trump. The president is calling her "sneaky" for releasing a transcript of a closed-door interview with Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson.

Fusion GPS is the group that was originally hired by Republicans to find dirt on Donald Trump. The Democrats took over the account once Trump vanquished all his Republican opponents.

I am not a big supporter of leaks, but in this case, I think Senator Feinstein can be excused.

Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee have been putting out a version of events that would seem to indicate Fusion GPS was part of some Democrat-inspired conspiracy – which included the FBI – to make Trump look bad.

Now the Republicans think Christopher Steele, the author of the now-infamous GPS Fusion dossier, should be investigated. How ridiculous.

As it turns out, we just learned that Steele actually went to the FBI on his own because he was sufficiently concerned about what he was learning out there. That's what people are SUPPOSED to do.

George Papadopoulos, a Trump campaign operative, spilled many of the SAME beans while talking to an Australian diplomat in a London bar.

The Australian then informed U.S. authorities about possibly problematic Trump-Russia ties.

Republican John McCain, upon receiving a copy of the dossier, also turned it over to the FBI.

Clearly this isn't some kind of Democratic plot and this partisan line of attack is wearing thin.

I think Feinstein's revelations, like the Pentagon Papers in 1971 and the Deep Throat revelations regarding Watergate starting in 1972, add fuel to the notion that the coverup is often worse than the crime.

If there were no crime, there would be no need to fight investigations; an innocent person would WELCOME them so as to expedite the clearing of one's name.

My Democratic friends are gleeful about the drip-drip-drip of all this, figuring one of these days Trump will be impeached. I have an alternative theory that makes me think there might actually be some method to Trump's madness.

What if there is no collusion and what if Trump knows it? What if all of his tweeting is actually setting a trap for Democrats?

Maybe there will be evidence presented regarding tax evasion or money-laundering, but all that might get drowned out by a triumphant Trump saying, "See, I TOLD you this was a witch hunt! There was NO COLLUSION!"

Meanwhile, Democrats will have spent a lot of time hoping for definitive proof of collusion when they should have been coming up with a candidate (with an actual platform) to run against Trump.

I'm not sure I believe Trump is smart enough to think this many chess moves ahead.

But when people say they think he's dumb or crazy, part of me says to myself, "Well, he DID make it to the White House. Maybe he's not so dumb. Maybe he's crazy like a fox."
