Some students at San Diego State University developed an app that enables night-owl students in the area to score great bargains from local restaurants. It's a win-win for everyone involved, including the planet.

"Till the App" offers a triple-win.

When restaurants are getting ready to close, they often have leftover items that are still perfectly good -- but simply didn't get sold that day.

Restaurant workers end up tossing the food, which is a total waste.

Wasted food often ends up in landfills that emit methane, which is a big contributor to global warming.

Some students at San Diego State University developed a mobile app that connects restaurants with hungry -- and bargain-hungry -- folks in the neighborhood.

At closing time, the restaurant puts out a push notification saying what's available; those who want to can claim these food items using "Till the App" -- and then scamper over to the restaurant to pick them up.

Discounts can run 40% or more, great for students on a budget who often burn the midnight oil. Restaurants get to recoup their food costs and excess food doesn't end up in a landfill -- a triple win.

Where does the name "Till" come from?

How does the app work?  Who's behind Till?

And what do these young entrepreneurs have in mind for the future?
