The Smartest Race

Most (religious) groups have their extremist elements. Some of these bigoted members receive more exposure than others.
The Times of Israel reports that an Israeli lawmaker has proclaimed the "supremacy of [the] 'Jewish race.'"
Miki Zohar stated his claim during a "radio debate" with the alleged corruption surrounding Prime Minister Netanyahu serving as the context for his remarks.
Zohar added that, "the entire Jewish race is the highest human capital, the smartest, the most comprehending."
In Zohar's defense, he had a good point -- at least politically.
The circumstances of Netanyahu's presumed misdeeds just don't seem that big of a deal -- relatively; most political leaders in every country, at least flirt with corruption all the time.
That much of the Israeli public understands this is a perfectly reasonable thing for Zohar to say.
Moreover, while generalizations can be pretty dangerous, in a philosophical sense, his actual statements about intelligence, as intemperately stated as they were, may even be accurate to a degree; of course, it greatly depends on how one defines "smart."
Smart at what?
You name it -- choose the source. Smart at: drawing up football schemes in the NFL; musical/literary criticism; technical alpine skiing; how to catch fish on a cold day. Whatever, the list goes on and on.
Is anyone smart at everything?
So to put it mildly, perhaps Miki overdid things a little here.
And with respect to most western, corporate media ? Not yet a peep of commentary.
CNN, MSNBC, Fox, BBC, ABC, NBC, CBS, AP, et al.? All are maintaining a deafening silence surrounding the bigoted comments.
No reporting, no summary condemnations, no demands for an apology, no forced groveling, no demands for resignation.
But in the interest of moving forward in a positive way, this Israeli lawmaker should simply apologize -- say he got carried away in the heat of a political debate.
But don't hold your breath.
And for all of those who whine about how Trump can get any traction/resonance with his Fake News meme, episodes like this illustrate the why of it all.
