The Mueller Report Could End Up Being Trump’s Key For 2020

Now that the truth has been finally revealed, just a year before the next presidential election, Trump will have the golden scenario for an efficient manipulator.

The art of winning a presidential election is essentially the art of conquering hearts and minds, to be the winner of a popularity contest where the main goal is to be more popular than your opponent. And in order to make this happen, the correct approach is not only to find a way of being more appealing to the voters, but also to delegitimize the counterpart. To play the dirtiest tricks on the book.

Indeed, this is one of the darkest sides of politics. However, this is the reality that everyone has to deal with even in the most democratic nations. And of course, the United States is far from being the honorable exception.

Usually, the way an American politician plays this game is by combining the demagogue, "victimist," populist, and smearing strategy with the admirable talent of selling their virtues and achievements efficiently.

Surprisingly, Donald Trump knew how to play both cards during the 2016 presidential election, something quite unexpected considering that he wasn’t a politician.

Next year, Trump will probably have it a little bit easier, not only because it will be impossible to delegitimize him with worse defamatory accusations than those the Democrats have already used against him, but also because he will have a powerful weapon to exploit: the Mueller report.

Since he got into office, the Democrats and its influential institutions (the mainstream media, the academia and Hollywood) repeatedly claimed that he colluded with the Kremlin to interfere in the election by sabotaging Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

Everyone who showed any sort of skepticism towards this idea was discredited and even ridiculed, in an uncomfortable situation that lasted for two years. A period of time in which former FBI director Robert Mueller conducted an extremely controversial investigation to determine whether Trump colluded with the Russians or not. A period of time in which every politician, news outlet and TV show claimed that it was about time for America to know how its president was indeed a Russian asset.

A couple of days before the Mueller report concluded there wasn’t any evidence of collusion between Trump and the Kremlin, and a poll conducted by USA Today/Suffolk revealed that the majority of Americans thought that the Mueller investigation was a witch hunt. Meaning that they were on Trump’s side on this matter. Meaning that they were against the Democratic narrative.

Now that the truth has been finally revealed, just a year before the next presidential election, Trump will have the golden scenario for an efficient manipulator. That is, the opportunity of executing the dirtiest smear campaign against his rival, and to make the most bombastic accusations, knowing that the majority will probably trust him. After all, the toxic effect that the Mueller report is having on the Democrats’ credibility will last long enough for Trump’s interests.

Now, in addition to the trophies he would show to the public, he has carte blanche for playing the victim role and lying about everything he wants.
