The Lighter Side of Coronavirus

The pandemic hasn’t been all bad. There have been some unexpected benefits related to COVID-19.

Sure, the COVID-19 pandemic has killed several hundred thousand people around the world and devastated the global economy, but every cloud has a silver lining. With tongue planted firmly in cheek in some cases — and not so much in others — here are five upsides to the respiratory disease also known as COVID-19:

CHINA UNMASKED
Coronavirus has caused the scales to fall from the eyes of any thinking person in terms of revealing as never before the true nature of the Chinese communist government.

Wuhan, China, of course, is where coronavirus originated. Not that the ChiComms want anyone to be aware of that basic "Made in China" fact.

Consider the government’s CYA actions during the outbreak and spread of the disease: lying and obfuscating about the true death toll due to the disease, disappearing doctors and journalists reporting accurately about on-the-ground conditions, peddling a ridiculous conspiracy theory the U.S. military is responsible for coronavirus, destruction of early samples of coronavirus and restrictions on coronavirus research.

SMOKE ’EM IF YOU GOT ’EM
Finally, a side benefit from smoking (besides looking cool), in the form of a recent study by the French government that indicates smokers are less likely to be infected with the coronavirus.  Still, said study doesn’t justify taking up the vile habit, if for no other reason than it’s exceptionally difficult to pull off suavely taking a drag from a cigarette while wearing a mask.

WE DON’T NEED NO (PUBLIC) EDUCATION
With schools — both K-12 and colleges — closed to due coronavirus, the general public is becoming acutely aware of just how awful government-run schools are.

Much to the chagrin of teachers unions, homeschooling during the pandemic has proven that parents can, from the comfort and safety of their own abodes, instruct their children just as effectively — if not more so — than teachers in state-sponsored schools.

Likewise, coronavirus has exposed snooty, ivory tower academia — with its focus on identity politics and perpetual victimhood – as the overpriced hoax it largely is. In the case of exorbitant college tuition at certain prestigious colleges and universities, parents and students are not getting what they pay out the nose for.

WINTOUR’S BONE TO PICK
It looks like coronavirus could end up helping to kill the career of fashion world icon and alleged iceberg of a human being Anna Wintour, whose vocational existence is only slightly less ridiculous as the industry is portrayed in Zoolander.

Or as William Shakespeare might have penned: "Now is the Wintour of her discontent, Made glorious summer by this sun of New York…"

A GOOD GUY
Let’s end on a high note, by applauding celebrity chef Guy Fieri for his part in raising more than $20 million for restaurant employees put out of work due to the economic shutdown in response to coronavirus. It’s nice to know the mayor of Flavortown is genuinely the nice person he comes across as on television.

The concept was very on-brand during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic in the spring of 2020.
