The Great Pretenders, Part III

It’s long past time we as a society stopped giving a pass to certain awful people and a few institutions that, quite frankly, ain’t what they used to be.
The zeitgeist of 2020 is lauding people and establishments undeserving of such kudos. Without any further ado, here are some folks and fixtures we should quit feigning as wonderful and worthy of praise.
Black Lives Matter: Of course black lives matter, but the organization Black Lives Matter shouldn’t. Why? Because of its Marxist underpinnings, its hostility to the nuclear family and capitalism, and its magnification of racial identity. Don’t take this writer’s word for it; take a gander for yourself at the “What We Believe” section of the Black Lives Matter website.
Thankfully, while many people and organizations are prostrating themselves before Black Lives Matter for fear of being wrongly labeled racist in the New Woke Order, a few cracks are beginning to emerge regarding the organization’s stranglehold on society. A recent poll indicates a plurality of Americans now oppose Black Lives Matter.
Cult-like fans of Beyoncé: Singer-dancer-actress Beyoncé Knowles – simply known as Beyoncé – is a fine entertainer, that’s for sure. Acknowledging that without falling all over yourself in praise of her as an artistic genius of staggering proportions isn’t good enough for those fans who regard her as a deity in human form, especially given the recent release of the “Black is King” musical film and visual album directed, written and executive produced by Queen B. The film serves as a visual companion to last year’s “The Lion King: The Gift” album, a tie-in effort curated by Beyoncé for the remake of “The Lion King” film that same year.
The embarrassing adulation and over-the-top fawning directed at her by her more dedicated fans and admirers borders on cringe-worthy religious-like behavior.
Oprah Winfrey: Also known by a single name, the great and powerful Oprah was perhaps best loved in her incarnation as host of her eponymous talk show featuring inspirational stories of ordinary folks, interviews with celebrities and self-help authors, and her giving away cars to unsuspecting audience members.
Today’s Oprah is not so likeable in that she’s become a purveyor of condescending racial navel-gazing drivel, including lecturing Americans on the made-up concept of white privilege. Because nothing endears a billionaire media mogul to the public more than claiming poor white people benefit from their skin color. There goes this writer’s chance of ever being gifted a car by Oprah.
Professional sports: For the vast majority of Americans, watching professional sports – either in person or on television – offers a respite from the real world, including politics. No longer, with every major sports league in America forcing Black Lives Matter and other woke nonsense down fans’ throats during actual games. It remains to be seen if the predictable ratings crash will have any effect on this unwelcome phenomenon.
Great job, NFL, in making this Seattle Seahawks’ fan ambivalent about the upcoming season.
