The Final Countdown to Cyberpunk 2077

After numerous release delays, CDPR has revealed more information about this triple A sci-fi RPG.

Cyberpunk 2077, which has been in development by CD Projekt Red for about nine years, will finally be released on December 10th of 2020. Numerous delays have raised the hype and expectations of this game, but what should we really expect when it rolls out on current and next-generation consoles?

Well, for one, Keanu Reeves’s character is not a romanceable option. The now infamous Johnny Silverhand is actually a figment of the player-character’s imagination, thanks to a microchip inserted in their brain, and he provides commentary to the player throughout the game. It’s unfortunate that he’s not part of the romanceable lineup, but his role as a pseudo-antagonist may be an even more interesting perspective.

In addition, there will be a cross-save function of the game, meaning that a game save started on an Xbox One X can be transferred to a different console, such as an Xbox Series X. It doesn’t seem particularly interesting, but with the eventual restocking of the next-gen consoles, many people will be upgrading this holiday season. As a result, being able to efficiently transfer save data is a handy feature.

Lastly, but also very important: character customization. Let’s be real, we’ve all been dreaming about making our perfect hacker-cyborg personas. However, there are things to consider when discussing the inclusivity of customizations. For example, games like Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, another 2020 release, have implemented non-binary player-character options. Does Cyberpunk take a similar route? Not exactly. Cyberpunk has eliminated the gender choice entirely, allowing players to choose body traits independently of one another. For example, a character with a male build can have a feminine hairstyle, voice, etc. It’s an interesting approach for sure, especially in a game that builds itself around the idea of bodily enhancements and augmentations.

All things considered, there are still many lingering questions about Cyberpunk’s gameplay, characters, and story. But the wait for answers is almost over. By the night of December 10th, we can be sure that gamers all over the world will be experiencing the wonders of Night City. Unless CDPR decides to delay the game again.
