The Bad Drivers Who Piss Me Off

Accident rates go up. Road rage is out of control. Is there room on the roads for grandma-like drivers?

It has been said that I drive “like an old lady.” I keep to the speed limit, am not eager to get out of the slow lane on the freeway and rarely seem like I’m in a rush to get anywhere. If that’s how old ladies drive, then I guess it’s true.

My attitude about driving rarely gets my blood pressure worked up because other drivers’ antics don’t aggravate me. In fact, those in my passenger seat get more aggravated by the fact that I’ll let pedestrians cross when there is no crosswalk and slow down so other cars can merge.

Karma theories would suggest that I’d always have parking luck, have nice people wanting to let me in and smiling faces thanking me when I let them in. Nope. Doesn’t happen and don’t expect it ever will. Ever hear the phrase, "Nice guys finish last"?

Honestly, I don’t mind, except one small thing. For the person with some sort of bumper sticker or window decal suggesting your great faith who cut me off in a whirlwind of discontent, please know you are not worthy of that decal. This is about the only thing that causes road rage to well up inside me.

Why? Because faith dictates that we should be kind and considerate to each other. You know, treat others as you want to be treated.

No one is perfect. I have my bad days when I’m not driving like an old lady and probably resemble more of a bat out of hell. But something tells me this isn’t an occasional occurrence for you. The number of dings and dents in your car suggest you will just plow on through anyone and everyone, regardless.

And it isn’t just when you cut me off that I notice you. I see you when you steal a parking space from someone else and leave no space for the neighboring car to open his door. You aren’t concerned when your door hits theirs either. Plain and simple, you just don't care.

Of course, this isn’t worth making a comment of any sort, though I secretly want to scratch off that damn sticker! You think you are righteous in the eyes of God because you have a sticker saying so. For me, I’ll keep driving like an old lady, happily wave you through, accept that you won’t thank me and await my real reward when my judgment comes. And I’m not talking about the parking gods either.

Happy and safe driving!
