Star Wars: Dual of the Fates. Would It Had Been Better than Rise of Skywalker? (Spoilers for Episode 9)

Right after the premier of Starwars: Rise of Skywalker, an alleged script of an alternate version of episode 9 had leaked online called Duel of the Fates. Many fans debated whether this script was fake or real and some wish it would have been the canonical ending for the Skywalker Saga. Will we ever see it surface?

Despite much controversy and debate between fans, much like the two previous films before it, Starwars: Rise of Skywalker has made the company over one billion dollars of revenue worldwide.

But what if that story wasn't the story we initially could have had?

What if, instead of the revisionist story that tried its hardest to forget the Last Jedi and attempted to draw in fans new and old and bring the saga to a universally pleasing conclusion, we had a movie that decided to follow the rabbit trail that began with the Last Jedi and brought a conclusion that maintained the arc established there?

Colin Treverrow, writer for Jurassic World and the first requested director the final episode of the "Skywalker saga," cites that a script that was completed was quite different from Abrams', and that the leak of the name 'Duel of the Fates', the alleged name for the new film was accurate in addition to the artwork and a key plot element. It has also been (indirectly) discovered that the actual script for the final entry has leaked as well.

From the leaks, it has been stated that instead of resurrecting old characters, the final iteration would have focused on the closing of Ben Solo/Kylo Ren, Rey, and Fin arcs, where Kylo would be the one to achieve the "unlimited power" that Palpatine had obtained, later to be defeated by Rey and the Jedi of the past like Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Anakin.

In addition, Fin would begin to step into a leadership role and help First Order troops to overcome the First Order's indoctrination as he did.

There was also some leaked concept art that is confirmed to coincide with Treverrow's script. The art indicates there would have also been a nod to the original trilogy in a scene showing an older Leia relaying a similar message through BB8 that she gave to R2D2.

One of the more interesting trends within the original script is its uncanny contrasts to that of JJ Abram's release, including R2D2 receiving nearly critical damage, much like C3PO's drastic memory wipe (this fact is explicitly confirmed by Trevorrow on Twitter).

In addition, Rey would also be in possession of a blue double-bladed lightsaber and wearing garb similar to Luke's in Return of the Jedi, where, in Abram's film, she saw a dark side version of herself with a similar type of lightsaber.

Possibly the most exciting image was that Kylo Ren would be fighting a vision of Darth Vader much like Luke did in Empire Strikes Back.

With Episode 9's mixed reception, some are wishing that this alternate take on episode 9 will surface in film, tv, or in a comic series. While I wouldn't bet the bank on it, if there is money to be made, Disney won't likely fall behind with an adaptation of some kind. Only time will tell.
