Sanctuary Cities vs. Trump's Tweets

Are Liberals contributing their "fair share" in addressing the migrant crisis at our southern border?

President Trump never misses an opportunity to dictate media narratives, especially during a relatively quiet news weekend. In a series of tweets, Trump proposed that Democrats pay for their unwillingness to reform our immigration laws by relocating detained illegal immigrants from overcrowded detention centers into the open arms of sanctuary cities.

As Democrats are calculating a response to the President’s latest tweet storm, Trump has proved once again that he’s always one step ahead of his adversaries, pointing out the irrationality and hypocrisy of the radical Left on immigration without their realizing it.

Even radical Leftists know that there’s a practical limit to how many refugees or illegal migrants a municipality can handle. However, while liberals in sanctuary cities condemn the Right for having heartless and racist immigration policies, they’re absentminded about, and comfortably distant from the real crisis that exists along our nation’s borders.

As thousands of migrants flood our detention centers, our ability to process them and properly take care of them has become severely strained. Therefore, as the name “sanctuary” suggests, cities that are uncooperative with federal immigration laws for the benefit of their illegal residents should be clamoring to accept these migrants so they can be safely integrated into society and be given the care and resources they deserve.

Of course, liberals are too smart to take on burdens that they cannot handle. However, Trump keenly deflected the blame for his administration’s handling of migrants at the border from himself and directed it against Liberals in sanctuary cities, implying that they aren’t contributing their “fair share” in dealing with migrant populations - using their own liberal concepts against them.

Ultimately, Trump’s proposal is likely a bluff, as the real priority regarding immigration policy is to keep Americans safe from drugs and gang members flowing across the border. Also, the legal and practical headaches of implementing such a policy would not be worth the effort.

In response, liberals may attempt to call Trump’s bluff and accept his proposal in an effort to embarrass him politically. In this event, all Trump needs to do is continue playing along. He could simply respond with: “OK then, how many migrants will you take?” Once numbers and practical considerations are introduced into the conversation, the Left would not agree to it, and Trump will have exposed their hypocrisy.

As usual, Trump is using petty arguments and unorthodox ideas to sell his pitch, which is to implement simple reforms that allow for a merit-based legal immigration system. While Trump distracts the media with his unpredictable and provocative nature, he’s getting closer to realizing the promises he made during his campaign trail.

This is the big picture that the Left always seems to overlook. Regardless of the various smear tactics employed by Leftist media pundits and liberals in Congress to take down Trump, they need to win the debate on policy in order to oust him, and arguably, their immigration policy is their biggest liability.
