Red October, Lies, and a Sick President

For this government, lies are proven true through manufactured documents. Truth is always suspect as the creation of his perceived enemies and facts designed to bring him down.

It started with an assertion that his home city of Davao was the safest city on earth. The claim was false. Then, they downgraded it to the safest city in the country despite the prevalence of illegal drugs, criminality, and rape. And from the mouth of the president, rapes happened because his city has many beautiful women.

Then there was the promise to root out corruption and to clean the streets of addictive drugs in less than a year. He had a special mission to end the menace that turned the country into a narco-state. People bought the crap; 16 million voters elected Rodrigo Duterte president.

Two years have passed, and criminality with links to the police is on the rise, illegal drugs still sold in communities. The president had his timeline readjusted, admitting the sad truth that his drug war is unwinnable, even after his presidency. But over 20,000 people have already been killed.

His government has made ridiculous headlines setting it to self-destruct mode. He continues to peddle lies and propaganda. The wolves are around, and no one believed he’s serious in governing. Only his fanatics living in an alternate reality do.

The economy is down; inflation and currency depreciation are up. There’s also a looming food crisis due to government inefficiency in controlling the distribution of rice.

During the previous administration, the economy was dubbed the rising tiger in the region. Today, it has become a stray dog. My apologies to dogs which are more loyal to their humans than this president to the nation.

Duterte never runs out of people to blame. He blamed the liberals, the opposition, the communists, the protesters, the international community, the CIA, the schools, the Church, the priests, and even God. Except for himself.

Recent events and revelations have changed the equation though -- Duterte is sick, probably with cancer. But he would prefer a military junta over the vice president to succeed him. He said Leni Robredo is weak.

Failing to learn from the debacles of a junta that ruled Myanmar for decades, the military has caved in to the whims of their boss. They concocted a conspiracy theory, alleging Red October, a made-up codename, as seeking to thwart the government.

The threat was said to be an alliance between Trillanes, the opposition, and the communists; of course, there was no proof for Red October. Also, they’re tagging ten universities across Metro Manila as the hotbed of the reds, only that there’s a non-existent university included in the list.

The intelligence fund worth billions of pesos yielded dumb, idiotic results.

For this government, lies are proven true through manufactured documents. Truth is always suspect as the creation of his perceived enemies; and facts, designed to bring him down.

Duterte is an insecure and sick head of state who would muster everything he could to cover up inefficiency, failure, and lack of seriousness in governing. But I still wish him good health.
