Record 100-Meter Time

The fastest time ever for a high school 100-meter sprint was recorded this past weekend.

Matthew Boling, a senior at Strake Jesuit high school in Houston, posted a time of 9.98 seconds in the 100 meters on April 27, the fastest in any condition in high school history, leaving the field in the dust.

Now back in the day, when we ran this event on tracks of dirt in the 70s, any time around 10 seconds was considered very good . . . but back then it was the 100-yard dash! Since 100 meters is actually 109.36 yards, these times are pretty amazing. Total props to Boling and all the other students out there posting great times.

Here's a video of Matthew's record run.

Boling's diverse athletic talents were on full display at the Texas Class 6A Region III track and field meet last weekend as he was also victorious in running the anchor legs of the 400-meter relay, the 1,600-meter relay, and also in the long jump. These triumphs helped guide Boling and his teammates to claim the overall team title at the event.

Boling plans on attending the University of Georgia. We shouldn't be surprised to hear his name in connection with the upcoming 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
