Random thoughts on the passing scene.

Country music group Lady Antebellum changed its name to Lady A because the word "Antebellum" is associated with slavery. It's about time the trio made clear they don't support slavery.

Drew Brees' wife has now apologized in self-flagellating fashion for her husband's benign comments on NFL players kneeling during the national anthem. Caving to the identity politics mob as the Breeses have done will earn them no forgiveness from self-appointed arbiters on racial matters.

"Harry Potter" author and staunch LGBTQ ally J.K. Rowling is being raked over the coals for having the temerity to call bovine excrement on the radical (and wrong) notion biological gender is a social construct wholly unrelated to physical reality. Deviating from uber-leftist sexual orthodoxy in any way, shape or form gets even the most ardent supporter of the cause excommunicated.

CNN's Angela Rye thinks statues of Thomas Jefferson and George Washington should come down because the two Founding Fathers owned slaves. They were not perfect people, but they were a product of their time, so if Rye could cut 'em some slack for being problematic before her pure soul was born into the world to atone for the sins of the past, that would be great.

How long before expressing the wrong opinion – one that isn't sufficiently woke – is grounds for punishment "Game of Thrones" style? That is, offenders are shorn and stripped, made to walk through the streets naked as a progressive minder shouts, "Shame! Shame! Shame!"

According to the mainstream media, President Trump engaging in a photo op is craven pandering to his base. When Democrats engage in a photo op, journalists cover it as a sincere expression of solidarity devoid of any and all political considerations.

It's surprising that Greta Thunberg – the Oracle of Stockholm – hasn't been consulted for her penetrating teen insight into the coronavirus pandemic and racial unrest in America.

Coronavirus messaging from the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control has often been confusing and contradictory; the WHO and CDC are home to more flip-flops than a beach house shoe closet.

Constant and suspect claims of systemic racism undercut the tremendous success of the Civil Rights movement.

The CHAZ powers-that-be in Seattle are requesting a long list of materials and supplies. Not surprisingly, dictionaries are not on the list, in that the "A" in CHAZ stands for "Autonomous."

Politicians who believe citizens shouldn't be allowed to have guns because police can protect the public are often the same politicians now pushing to "Defund the Police."

"Defund the Police" is terrible public relations and marketing, as evidenced by all of the backpedaling being done by supporters who now claim that's not what they really meant.

The vast majority of those advocating to "Defund the Police" would be on the phone with police lickety-split if their business and/or home was threatened by rioters and looters.

Prediction: Humorist Dave Barry's "Year in Review" column for 2020 will be epic.
