Random thoughts on the passing scene.

U.S. gymnast Simone Biles is neither hero, nor villain. She is a human being who made the decision not to compete.

Congressional Democrats’ weepy investigation of the January 6 storming of the Capitol Building resembles the show trials of the former Soviet Union. Also, it’s odd there is no similar public hearing regarding the much more destructive and deadly Antifa- and Black Lives Matter-fueled riots of last summer.

President Biden recently solidified his reputation as the Walter Mitty of American politics by making the ridiculous claim he used to drive an 18-wheeler.

Vice President Harris’ immigration plan promising to “pivot away from what does not work” makes one think of a certain “Friends” episode in which Ross Geller — as played by David Schwimmer — frantically yells, “Pivot! Pivot! Pivot!” as he and a few, well, friends, try to move an unwieldy couch up several flights of stairs.

A godawful communications strategy undermining the effectiveness of vaccines plus catering to the whims of the unvaccinated equals a complete loss of credibility for the federal government on COVID-19.

Dr. Anthony Fauci is the bureaucratic equivalent of Batman villain Two-Face.

Mandatory inoculation against COVID-19 may or may not be sound public policy, but it’s worth noting that in the 1905 case of Jacobson v. Massachusetts, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the authority of states to enforce compulsory vaccination laws.

Getting more people vaccinated is likely the key to finally ending the COVID-19 threat. Calling the unvaccinated names or otherwise belittling them, however, is not going to convince the unvaccinated to get the shot or shots. Something about catching more flies with honey than vinegar.

No good comes from the sinister alliance between teachers’ unions and politicians.

It’s only a matter of time before the woke folks behind cancelling minority mascots and product imagery claim cancelling minority mascots and product imagery is due to systemic racism. Don’t laugh. It will happen.

NBC’s Chuck Todd, safely ensconced in his progressive echo chamber, says there is no liberal media bias.

At some point in the future, when America is a shell of its former self — or worse — people will look back at this time in history and wonder how our nation made the preposterous decision to embrace actions and policies known to be unworkable and even destructive, while eschewing the very things that made America great and the envy of the world.

Public order is old and busted. De facto anarchy is the new hotness.

Former Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer was recently mugged by reality, as it were, in Oakland, California.

Washington state’s restrictive new police laws are off to an ominous start. See here. Check out the last paragraph in this story.

Seattle Mayor Jenny “Summer of Love” Durkan is reaping what she (and the City Council) sowed. It's a very different kind of SOL.

It looks like smarty pants Albert Einstein was right. Again.

Settled science is an oxymoron.
