A Project I'm Excited About at CES: PundiX, Creator of the First Blockchain Phone

I'm stoked for CES and I wanted to share about a project I thought was cool, PundiX. PundiX introduced the world's first Blockchain phone in 2019, received an innovation award this year. They are advancing decentralization with their Function X Blockchain. Learn more in this article announcing some new developments in the PundiX world and how they are helping enhance decentralization around communication and privacy.

As a passionate technologist and community organizer, I am very interested in seeing a more private and free world. PundiX aims to solve this with hardware, software and a new, unique way of connecting them together.

The benefits of a decentralized Internet cannot be overstated. This means things like helping to support free speech, improving privacy and allowing control over your personal data. While there are many barriers to accomplish this goal, the team at PundiX has been working with a dedicated community to help solve these problems.

They released their concept paper in 2018 and described Function X aka f(x) as, “A universal decentralized internet which is powered by blockchain technology and smart devices. The vision for f(x) is to create a fully autonomous and decentralized network that does not rely on any individual, organization or structure.”

They say, it is not just a public chain. “It is a total decentralized solution.”

Here are the five core components that make up PundiX's solution:

  1. 1. Function X Operating System (OS)
  2. 2. Function X distributed ledger (Blockchain)
  3. 3. Function X IPFS
  4. 4. FXTP Protocol
  5. 5. Function X Decentralized Docker

The concept paper says these five components “serve a single purpose which is to decentralize all websites, apps, services, communications and data.” A big part of their ambitious plan is already in use, the world's first Blockchain phone. You can make calls, send SMS, share files and browse the internet all without a centralized service provider.

When PundiX announced their phone at CES 2019 they called it the Xphone but they recently renamed it BOB, which stands for Blok on Blok to signify its Blockchain backbone.

PundiX also operates their own cryptocurrency-based network and they created the Xwallet and Xpass a credit card size cold wallet. Merchants use the XPOS device not only for goods and services but also to exchange digital currencies. The BOB provides a decentralized environment using the Function X Blockchain so users can reclaim control over their privacy and personal data.

In January, PundiX will be showcasing BOB at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The PundiX community inspired phone has been recognized as a CES 2020 innovation award honoree for being the first Blockchain phone.

If you’re attending CES 2020 you can find PundiX and try BOB yourself at the Sands Expo Hall G, Booth 52501.

And if you’re as excited about Technology and the Blockchain as I am then join us in Vegas for a “CES 2020 Blockchain Happy Hour” that myself and other community members are hosting on January 8th from 6-8pm at the G.O.A.T. Bar
