Granary Lodge Opened on May 14, but what makes this scenic Scottish Bed and Breakfast unique is that it is owned and operated by the future King of England.

I’ve had my "fantasy days" when I think it might be nice to open a B&B in a quaint, pleasant, and relaxing environment. That’s equivalent to being tired of fighting traffic, attitudes, and the high cost of living in the major cities I’ve been exposed to for the past few decades. Ah, to live and work at a remote and charming B&B...

Who knew?!? I have something in common with Prince Charles—other than the fact we were both born in London, England (he in Buckingham Palace, though). The heir to the British throne has opened a Bed and Breakfast at the Castle of Mey in Scotland—his vacation spot yearly for most of his life. The venue overlooks the North Sea, so the view is quite lovely.

The 70-year-old Prince, an environmentalist, opened the grounds to the public on May 14.  He wants to boost tourism in the village of Caithness. Prince Charles funded the venture himself.

The Royal family has made access to the B&B, called Granary Lodge, quite affordable, considering the tie-in to royalty. The starting rate for a double room is 145 pounds a night and a Super King Double Suite is 155 pounds nightly. This translates to $187.57 USD and $194.09 USD respectively, with the current exchange rate of the British Pound equaling a bit over $1.25 US Dollars. Back in 2014, a British Pound was worth $1.60 so the Brit currency is at an all time low. Economists say there is a connection with the effort to have Britain depart from the European market (Brexit TBD).

Prince Charles is smart to market a reasonable getaway in the UK. I did a little research and found the cheapest night you can book a night at London's top hotel, The Stafford London, is 338 Pounds for one person, which would equal $423.24 here in the States.

Yep, the Prince possesses "royal wisdom." You can stay an a Holiday Inn for around $190 a night in a major US city like Chicago or San Francisco: the price point for Granary Lodge is perfectly amenable.

So, what comes with the stay at the Royal B&B on the Scottish Sea?

Check out the website: https://www.castleofmey.org.uk/hospitality/granary. There are plenty of amenities that include "Breakfast made from quality, locally-sourced ingredients" and a "comfortable drawing room with open fire and views over the sea." You can take a day trip, visit the Heritage Museum, check out distilleries, arrange a private tour, or even book your marriage.

The 10-bedroom house has been awarded 5 stars by TravelAdvisor.com. I am sure it fills up fast, so be prepared to make reservations well in advance. In addition to a cultured stay, it is not out of the realm of possibility that you might literally rub elbows with the future King of England!
