President Trump – Warts and All – the Much Less Scary Choice than Joe Biden

The incumbent's record warrants his re-election.

It’s axiomatic that every four years the commentariat declares this presidential election the most consequential of our lives. The serial hyperbole aside, the 2020 campaign has people feeling there is more on the line than usual in terms of who emerges victorious – President Trump or Joe Biden – on or about Nov. 3rd. The people are not wrong.

Trump is a D.C. outsider – an irrepressible loudmouth New Yorker – who frequently violates presidential norms. Yet it is Democratic presidential nominee Biden who threatens to do more damage to the nation’s constitutional order. Trump has not sought to redo the balance of power via irregular means – that is, fundamentally transforming basic institutions of government.

It is Biden and Democrats – contemptuous of not always getting their way – who openly speak of packing the Supreme Court, adding Democratic friendly states to the union for the sole purpose of changing the makeup of the Senate, abolishing the Electoral College, eliminating the legislative filibuster, dramatically changing voting laws in their favor and so on.

There can be little doubt Democrats would pursue such an agenda if Biden wins the White House and Democrats take full control of Congress. In short, Democrats desire to ensure permanent victory by eradicating future challenges from the Republican Party, or any other party.

Anyone hoping good guy Biden – said reputation at odds with reality – would stand up to this dangerous nonsense has been disappointed by the convergence of his cognitive decline and a dramatic shift toward the radical left.

A Biden administration portends higher taxes and a nanny state that will bend the knee at the altar of identity politics and cave to the woke mob more interested in tearing down history rather than learning from it. It offers an end to fracking and hostility to the energy sector as a whole in favor of the unserious proposal that is the Green New Deal. A fragile Biden augurs for rejoining the useless Iran nuclear deal and softness on an aggressively expansionist China, especially given recent influence-peddling accusations that are becoming increasingly difficult to credibly deny.

That’s as compared to what over the top and offensive Trump has actually accomplished: a pre-COVID-19 economy that was booming for all Americans – including record low unemployment rates for minorities – and a current economy that wants to roar back to life if governors will let it; keeping the country out of new and costly wars while isolating the Persian menace that is Iran and destroying the Islamic State’s caliphate; brokering several peace deals in the Middle East; and standing up to red China.

It would behoove voters to cast their ballots based not on perceptions of personality, but based on policy prescriptions. In other words, with Trump, the American people will continue to be the beneficiary of good policies in spite of the president’s character flaws, but with career politician Biden, the American people will get bad policies and character flaws.

Elections have consequences. Choose wisely, America.
