President Trump's Post-Coronavirus Resurrection

For me the NBC townhall wasn't about the issues, Trump v. Biden, or even Trump v. Guthrie. It was about Trump v. Coronavirus....

Last night's NBC "Town Hall" hosted by Savannah Guthrie featured a remarkably energetic, focused, and telegenic post-coronavirus presentation of self by President Trump.

In my opinion, this appearance is as important to his re-election efforts as stories regarding alleged scandals surrounding Hunter Biden's work as a bagman for VP Joe Biden with Ukrainian oligarchs and Chinese Communist Party fronts, or Senate hearings on Amy Coney Barrett's nomination.

It may have won him the election, for those who vote for the better-looking candidate, as the American voting public has done many times before -- Kennedy v. Nixon, Reagan v. Carter, Clinton v. Bush, and Obama v. McCain.

I honestly didn't mind that Guthrie appeared shrill, unfair and accusatory. Her open hostility made me more sympathetic to a man recently released from the hospital, and generated increased respect for his stamina.

For me the NBC Town Hall wasn't about the issues, Trump v. Biden, or even Trump v. Guthrie.

It was about Trump v. Coronavirus.

The President looked much better than before he was sick, in my opinion. Even a critical questioner complimented his smile, calling him "handsome." Never saw that on TV before.

Details didn't matter, but tone did.

Far from appearing to be "damaged goods," President Trump was in fine form after surviving coronavirus, and so illustrates what "Make America Great Again" means.

If the President can triumph over COVID-19, there is hope for us all. His case demonstrates medical treatments have improved to the point where an overweight, 74-year old man in a high-stress job could return to a full workload in a few days after a short hospitalization.

I believe if President Trump could make Regeneron and the other experimental drugs he took available by executive order now, there should be no reason for Americans to be afraid of COVID-19 anymore.

His swift and dramatic recovery could likewise lead to the resurrection of the US economy, and to a quick return to normal life--because it reduces a debilitating psychological "fear factor" surrounding a now demonstrably treatable disease.

Instead of hysteria about masks and social distancing, public discourse could focus on getting American back to work as soon as possible, reopening businesses, schools, churches, entertainment and tourism venues.

The Resurrection theme also allows a clear choice in the election between a Democratic Party which wants to keep America shutdown, essentially under house arrest, and a Trump administration that wants to liberate the population.

President Trump is now able to run on his personal resurrection story as one element in a national resurrection, as well as resurrection for  American freedom in the last three weeks of this election.

President Trump came roaring back BIGLY.

It's time for America to come roaring back, too.
