Pelosi's Choice

Speaker Nancy Pelosi's choice to side with her radical freshman against President Trump reveals that she was not forced to condemn him, because he offered an opportunity for "triangulation" which could have provided her with Republican support in Congress to marginalize the extremists.

Contrary to conventional wisdom, President Trump did not "trick" Speaker Pelosi into uniting with the radical left by tweeting about the anti-Americanism of four freshman in her Congressional caucus who expressed sympathy for Al Qaeda, Antifa, Hamas and Black Lives Matter.

When he recycled "Love it or leave it!" sentiments from the 1960s, the President wasn't talking about race--but patriotism.

He clearly intended to move political discussion away from racial division, and towards national unity against threats to the American Way such as bigotry, terrorism and political extremism. He even tipped his hand when he defended Speaker Pelosi against insinuations of racism from the same freshmen, declaring:

"I'll tell you something about Nancy Pelosi that you know better than I do, she is not a racist. OK? She is not a racist. For them to call her a racist is a disgrace."

His statement was an offer for Speaker Pelosi to join him in purging extremists, indicating that he would support her if she chose to move the Democratic Party back to the center, as Bill Clinton had done in his Sister Souljah moment or Barack Obama in his "A More Perfect Union" rejection of Reverend Wright.

In my opinion, this wasn't "bait," rather sincere concern for the direction of the country. He would have Pelosi's back if she took on her militant tendency.

However, she rejected this offer, instead siding with "Justice Democrats," to pass HR 489, "Condemning President Trump's racist comments directed at Members of Congress."

In doing so, Speaker Pelosi signaled moderates were no longer welcome in the Democratic Party by supporting libelous legislation based on malice, falsehood and deliberate misrepresentation.

Patriotism only is racist if one holds that America is racist, which means the flag, national anthem, all the institutions and office-holders are racist.

This was not the position of the Democratic Party before now--although it was, for example, the position of the Communist Party when Gus Hall and Angela Davis ran for President in 1980.

Pelosi's choice to side with her radical freshman against President Trump reveals that she was not forced to condemn him, because he offered her an opportunity for "triangulation" which could have provided her with Republican support in Congress to marginalize the extremists.

Her rejection of this triangulation illustrates that she shares the radical Left's contempt.

Her unprecedented personal attack on President Trump from the House floor violated some 200 years of procedural precedent and established Congressional rules, upping the ante for future political levels to extremes not seen since the 1970s.

Yesterday's vote for impeachment may have only garnered 95 votesbut by choosing to permit it to come to the floor, and votes to hold Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and Attorney General William Barr in contempt, Speaker Pelosi has empowered her radicals to further their agenda.

This sets the stage for a Constitutional Crisis, decisively shifting political power to the US Senate, which serves as jury for any charges to be brought against the President.
