Peace Through Strength: Independence Day Done Right

Yes, the U.S. loves peace, but we are, and always have been, the hammer ready to bury the nail once it has lost grip of its place in the world.

It's time to embrace who we are as Americans. Yes, we are the land of the free because of the brave; yes, we battled dozens of Indian tribes and conquered and settled their lands; yes, slavery and the Civil War tore us apart and forced us to start the process of restoring, rebuilding, and redefining our nation.

Knowing our history- both good and bad- helps us to define who we are and what we want to become as a nation. People risk their lives and the lives of their families today and every day to migrate through hellscapes, both legally and illegally, just for a chance to work here in our most basic of opportunities.

Islamic extremists seek to destroy us simply because we shine a light for the world to see what man can achieve when governed by a constitution granting each person under its protection the rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

There are no guarantees, but if you respect your neighbor and your country then you can have the American dream.

When troubles arise anywhere in the world, we are looked to for a solution, for aid. Yes, we love peace, but make no mistake: we are, and always have been, the hammer ready to bury the nail once it has lost grip of its place in the world.

Our political landscape changes every four years. This, by design, is a cycle of renewal for our country.

Some disagree with this year's national Independence Day parade, but with President Trump's show of the great military assets we have at our disposal, maybe, just maybe, North Korea can get a glimpse at the restrained but ever-ready power our military can yield. More people around the world sleep well at night simply because of our military strength- that includes some people who are acting ungratefully towards this shield of protection the country constantly offers them.

Peace through strength has and always will be the only insurance our nation can offer to secure our blessings of liberty, and I, for one, have great respect for President Trump's celebration of that strength.
