Packing for Vacation: The Two Different Types

Packing for my trip to Europe has shown me the two different types of packers. You're either one or the other, there is no in between.

With my European trip less than 24 hours away, I've noticed some very big differences in the way I plan for packing and the way my friend plans for packing. Now, in my experience you are either one or the other. First, the one who spends days packing. The second? The last minute packer.

Now, in thinking back to my childhood, I was always the second. The late packer that spends, usually, the day before packing for vacation. But as I've aged and I've turned more into my mother, I've become the person who begins packing days in advance. I make list, check the list again and again. But I find in packing ahead of schedule gives me some sort of relief. I don't have that anxiety of forgetting something because I've had days to plan everything. From trying on different outfits, to packing something as important as my passport. I can confidently say that I have everything I need and more.

Now, for the second type, the last minute packer. In thinking about those type of people, the one that comes to my head is my friend that I'm going to Europe with. He just started washing his clothes and we leave, like I said, in less than 24 hours. I think he may be insane. Thinking about packing the day before the trip stresses me out and I'm not even the one doing it. He doesn't make list, waits until the last minute, and has zero anxiety about it. It gives me anxiety just to witness such last minute packing. Even as I write this, he is laying on his couch watching Tiktoks instead of going over his packed items. It's actually kind of hilarious to be completely honest. He is just lounging without a care in the world. Meanwhile I'm still running through the list in my head.

But, at the end of the day, the type of packer you are doesn't matter. What matters is the trip itself. So what if you forgot your favorite pair of socks? No one will notice anyway. So I guess what I'm getting at is enjoy the excitement that comes with packing because what will follow could be the greatest experience of your life. And nothing can beat that.
