Our Trip to Greece is No More

I will no longer be traveling to Greece, and I only have one agency to thank.

My trip to North Macedonia has been anything but disappointing. I've experienced so much; new foods, culture, and new people. With all that being said, I was looking forward to Greece. It's a place I've wanted to see since I was ten years old.

Full of ancient myths, and rich with history. From the beautiful beaches to places like the Parthenon, I wanted to see it all. Although the drive to Athens was out of the question because it is so far from where we were going to stay in Lefkada. But, Greece is still a place I wanted to see myself in.

All the doubt with the trip started because my Macedonian friend had to renew his American visa so that he may return to his studies in the states. Well, the first week into the trip, the embassy notified him that he wouldn't receive an interview for the visa until next year. Now, that won't work given we are set to return this July.

So we filed for an emergency visa. To which my friend was told that if he heard back from them that it was approved and if he didn't then it was denied and he wouldn't be able to return to the states with me. Which if you think about it, is an awful limbo to be in.

A week later he heard back from the embassy and they gave him an interview within the week. At this point, we had given up all hope of going to Greece. So when he got the interview we started to give ourselves a sliver of hope. Then they informed him that they needed his passport for the visa, which is normal, and that it would only be with them for two to three business days. Great! Right? We thought so.

We had regained total hope in going to Greece, we even booked a place to stay and we had the plans all sorted. We even had a day planned to go to the exchange office. We were so prepared and so excited. But there was a hiccup, the Fourth of July. US embassy workers don't work on holidays, no big deal right? We should get the passport back by Wednesday at the latest and then we'd leave on Thursday morning.

Well, Wednesday rolls around and we still haven't heard anything from the embassy. So we pushed the trip back a day. Thursday gets here and we still haven't heard anything. So we had to cancel the trip altogether. To say we were both disappointed would be putting it lightly.

But at the end of the day, there is nothing you can do when you have no control. You are at the mercy of others and sometimes they disappoint you to no end. But I guess that's life, right?
