New York Bill is Changing Restrooms

Surprisingly, New York has passed a bill to change bathrooms, and I can get behind it.

Usually when we talk about changing bathrooms in a state like New York, it's a controversial, unappealing discussion. But with the new year comes new bathroom policies in the state of New York. It covers an issue that affects a lot of people, about which no one is particularly fond.

I'm talking about diaper changing.

Multiple studies from Pew Research have indicated that fathers have taken a much more active role in child-care over the past several decades, and the amount of care increases yearly. But concerns have been raised over the limited availability of diaper changing stations in public restrooms, which have men resorting to squatting on restroom floors to get the job done (even prompting the #SquatForChange). The new initiative, however, would require all new and renovated buildings with public restrooms in New York to have changing stations available to both genders.

Usually when we hear about new bills being passed and laws being implemented, we hear about the big and controversial changes, like guns, taxes, drugs or immigration. But there are smaller bills, practical bills, that are important, they aren't quite eye-catching enough to gain much attention.

This law appears to be unique to New York, but it is one that I can definitely get behind.
