Ladies, Take It from a Guy: Be Yourselves. You Look Terrific. And Let Yourself Go Gray.
I just read Marion Charatan's piece on Barbie. There are now lots of Barbie Dolls in different shapes, sizes and skin tones. It seems almost odd, when you think about it, that this didn't happen long ago. I'm guessing Barbie Doll sales will go up.
But I want ladies to know that many guys really like the natural look. If you are a few pounds overweight, well, chances are, we're not so perfect, either. And if your boobs aren't quite big enough, who cares? Good things come in small packages.
I live in Los Angeles, where it's quite common to see women who have had some "work" done. I always wonder why they do this, when they end up looking oddly unnatural.
I suppose if someone has a feature that really sticks out as unattractive, that would justify plastic surgery. But I've seen women who looked fine before -- but for some reason they didn't believe it -- actually harm their looks as a result of plastic surgery.
Unless it's a really needed procedure, I hope I can reach just one young lady out there with this message: Don't do it! You are beautiful as you are, be yourself.
But I've saved the best for last. Let your hair go naturally gray! I am just one guy speaking only for myself, but I think it's a very attractive look. It shows self-confidence. It looks real. There's nothing wrong with it. I think there's something wonderful about it.
I live in LA. It's almost impossible to find gray- or silver-haired ladies walking the streets.
My wife is from Mill Valley, up in Northern California, a town filled with aging hippies. Walk into a Whole Foods up there and you'll see lots of beautiful women with flowing, silver locks.
We recently shot a fun video in LA and needed a gray-haired lady to play a part. Such an individual was almost impossible to find! When we did finally find one, she told us she gets compliments from men on her white hair all the time. I believe it.
So if this guy can advise ladies on beauty, is that just me being a typical guy? Maybe I'm walking on thin ice, I don't know. Anything anyone says these days seems to get the speaker in trouble.
But I would say to guys the same thing I'm telling the ladies: Be natural. Wigs and hair transplant plugs in particular seem pretty obvious and unnatural.
I'm bald, but I don't lose any sleep over it. What's the big deal?
Let's just accept ourselves -- and each other -- as we are. It's what's inside that counts.
