Disney's live-action re-make of the classic film Mulan gets its first teaser trailer!

Mulan is technically a Disney Princess, but her definition of that term changes what it really means to be a princess in the traditional sense, which is why so many people are more excited than ever after seeing the first teaser of the new live-action Mulan. Watch it here via YouTube:

When the movie was first announced, the news had pretty much everyone, fans of the original or not, worried for many different reasons. With a string of what some people call "whitewashing" in Hollywood movies as of late -- most notoriously the name Scarlett Johansson comes to mind with her film Ghost in the Shell -- a lot of diversity advocates were wary of how the casting in Mulan would look, especially since the movie consists of entirely Asian characters.

There were already waves of people making popular hashtags on Twitter, creating petitions, and just generally trying to amplify their voices in order to ensure an ethnically-correct cast was used for this powerful film.

Additionally, as far as the worries from fans of the original go, the announcement that the film wouldn't include the talking dragon, Mushu, or musical numbers had many in an outrage, especially since Mulan has perhaps the most iconic songs in the entire Disney universe.

Personally, the non-inclusion of the musical numbers didn't bother me as much since this is a re-make, not an exact replication, of the original. It gives writers and producers more room to develop the plot line and characters just a bit more for every three-to-four-minute song that isn't included. That's a lot of extra room for story expansion given how many musical numbers were in the animated version.

However, the release of this trailer seemingly has everyone appeased. The cast is chock-full of Asian actors, costuming, and themes that are authentic to the culture existent in the original Mulan. Likewise, the power of a strong, female protagonist, genuine-looking action, and true- rather than forced- female heroism have quelled the outrage over the lack of song and dance in the film.

It seems people are finally recognizing that this story has more important themes to share rather than just being a fun film with cool songs and funny dragons.

In short, this quick teaser has everyone hyped for the trailers to follow and, eventually, the full-length, live action film, arriving in theaters in March of 2020.
