More Than Just A Suit: A Gender-Neutral Swimwear Line Wants to Shake Things Up

Humankind Swim aims to empower the LGBTQ+ community with their gender-neutral swimwear line.

Now more than ever, inequality in today's world is met with a burning need for change. Movements like Black Lives Matter and Me Too combat this malice with the much needed conviction that enough is enough. We must make space for one another, provide comfort, and strive for inclusivity.

Humankind Swim, an emerging gender-neutral swimwear line, was born from an ardent desire for inclusivity. Founder Haily Marzullo struggled to find a swimsuit that she felt comfortable in. As a lesbian, she saw firsthand that the options for the LGBTQ+ community were slim. Marzullo found herself "making do", utilizing a woman's sports bra top and men's trunks in lieu of traditional swimwear. Frustrated by the lack of options available, Marzullo realized that this problem needed to be solved.

Driven by the notion that all humans should feel confident in what they wear, Marzullo spent years designing and perfecting a line that could empower every single body. The result? A fashion-forward, gender-neutral line comprised of various pieces to mix and match. The suits are designed to swim or sweat all day long, bound to neither a gender-identity or a day's activities.

For the average person, who's able to simply buy any swimsuit, Humankind Swim may not carry much significance. However, for any person who's felt unseen, it does. Everyday a great number of people, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community, are faced with a series of hurdles. The world is mapped out for a specific kind of person and if one doesn't fit within this mold, life becomes harder.

Inclusivity is the name of the game. The more spaces, dialogues, and resources created, the more balanced the world will be.

January 29th 2019 marks the launch of Humankind Swim's Kickstarter campaign. Join Humankind Swim and help launch the next wave of self-confidence.
