Michigan is the Most Terrifying Team in Men's College Basketball

Be afraid. Be VERY afraid.

Now there are two.

Three teams remained undefeated going into conference play. Houston lost their Wednesday night game against Temple, by a solid 4 points. I say solid because honestly, with Houston playing as well as it has, 4 points is damn solid. Either way, it's a loss.

This leaves only Virginia and Michigan with records perfectly intact. Virginia looks like a slightly faster-paced version of themselves coming out of last year, with scores across the board increasing ever so slightly, and with Kyle Guy looking just as good as he did last year. But Michigan? They scare me.

Virginia looks like an amazing team, and I will make no attempts to cheapen that. Though in fairness, we have them to thank for the first upset of a 1 seed versus a 16 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Really though, what you already know I'm getting around to saying is that Michigan is absolutely the best team in men's college basketball right now. They have so far beaten two top 25 teams in North Carolina and Indiana. They did both convincingly.

Rebounding from the somewhat humdrum championship game against Villanova that capped off the NCAA Tournament (did I mention that they beat Villanova 73-46 this year?), this Wolverine team has come out swinging. Their most impressive game of the season so far was definitely their shellacking of UNC. In the interest of full disclosure, I am a rabid UNC fan. Born and raised that way. Yes, UNC did not play their best game against Michigan by any stretch of the imagination, but even so, it was thorough domination from start to finish. I regard this year's North Carolina team as one of the absolute best in basketball, from the coaching down to the bench. It didn't matter.

Nothing really seems to matter when it comes to playing Michigan. They play with a calculated ferocity that I haven't seen since the 2014-2015 Kentucky Wildcats. Let's not forget, that Kentucky team had Karl-Anthony Towns who was an absolute superstar in college.

I'm not quite sure who could be the team to beat Michigan this year. My first thoughts bring me to Duke, who are powered by a superstar quintuplet of Cam Reddish, R.J. Barrett, Tre Jones, and of course, Zion Williamson.

However, with the defensive skill shown by the Wolverines, I actually think they could overpower this insane Duke team. After them, who else? No one else has quite the ability to stop proven scorers, both in the paint and behind the arc. Much less winning in a shootout against a team that has proven they can win each and every shootout they've come across.

Ultimately, it comes down to this. There are so many great teams in the field this year. We as fans will be blessed when March Madness rolls around. But who, outside of a fluke, can stop this Michigan team?

They might be the first team to go undefeated since 1976. Really.
