Media, Left’s Reaction to Atlanta, Boulder Shootings a Damning Indictment of Identity Politics

Reporters and politicians blatantly and dishonestly shaped the stories to fit their preferred political narrative.

Two recent mass shootings in the United States — one in Atlanta, Georgia, and the other in Boulder, Colorado — claimed the lives of 18 innocent people. Another casualty in the aftermath of the twin tragedies was the truth, in the form of unscrupulous journalists and progressive politicians and their allies spinning the stories in service to the primacy of racial identity and all that entails.

The fatal shooting of eight people — six of whom were women of Asian descent — at three Atlanta-area spas on March 16 was, according to what’s known so far, carried out by a young man motivated by a combination of sex addiction and extreme religiosity. Again, based on all available evidence, the admitted killer carried out his deadly deed because he couldn’t control the carnal impulses he frequently satiated at said spas.

That, of course, didn’t stop the mainstream media from perverting the story by incessantly and relentlessly reporting the massacre as a racist hate crime carried out by a white supremacist. Political commentator Andrew Sullivan has done yeoman’s work — see here — in detailing how the fourth estate, in its rush to jump on board the Asians-are-an-oppressed-minority bandwagon that is all the rage now, jettisoned all pretense of objectively and fealty to the truth to report the story as it didn’t happen.

Of course, Democratic politicians did the same in the name of adherence to the oppressor-oppressed dynamic that is central to identity politics. Thus Sen. Tammy Duckworth, one of two Asian-Americans serving in the U.S. Senate, could claim the shootings were racially motivated. Apparently being of Asian descent gives Duckworth special insight to overrule on-the-scene law enforcement and the killer himself.

Likewise, the March 22 killing of 10 people — all of them white — at a King Scoopers grocery store in Boulder by a possibly mentally ill Muslim immigrant originally from Syria totally upended the simplistic notion of white people as the bad guys and minorities as the good guys, much to the chagrin of various left-leaning journalists, commentators, pundits and politicians.

Folks on the left were practically orgasmic when they assumed the shooter was a white male, before becoming crestfallen at finding out the suspect was a brown man of Islamic faith. The result was a land-speed record in terms of said journalists, commentators, pundits and politicians modifying their social media reactions, if not outright scrubbing their former incorrect takes on the situation.

It remains to be seen if the forces of race-centric progressivism are able to turn a Syrian into a “white Middle Easterner” as was the case with George Zimmerman being deemed a “white Hispanic.”

It’s also worth noting that unlike the killings in Atlanta, where the majority of victims were Asian, there was no rush by the press and politicians to label the deaths of 10 white people as a racist hate crime.

As should be obvious, identity politics — its pathological obsession with race on full display — is poisoning the country.
