Lost Rose No More

To the mothers who lost their children and husbands in the Philippines' phony drug war:

I saw a rose and wild was she
Her petals red and sharp her thorns
I drew closer and there she was
Humming a tune, wiping her tears.

She said, "I'm rose no more
My branches cut, forever lost
My leaves wither one by one
By the bullets of a gun."

I listened to her tragic tale
A mother with a pretty child
At night, husband's gone mad
For fighting back her boy got killed

I hummed with her the tune of
Not a happy song, it was a dirge
There, where he was buried,
Right there the rose I replanted.

I said, "You're rose forevermore
Branches joined and lost no more
Leaves will grow with morning dew
By sundown, I'll come to you."
