Libraries Have Reopened!

My home-away-from-home has finally reopened: the library.

I remember when I was in second grade and my class went on an adventure walking down the street to the local library in town. My hands clasped my partner's and along we went through the endless array of books, books and more books. There was "Rainbow Fish," "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom," just to name a few. Everyone gathered around the front desk and signed their very own, very first, library card (I still have mine!).

From that moment on, I have always loved reading. Ever since the libraries shut down back in March, I felt a pang of sadness when I wasn't allowed to carry bags of books home anymore. Thankfully, as of July 6, the library close to home has reopened! While it is open during normal hours before quarantine, there are still procedures and rules in place to ensure everyone is safe. And not all libraries are reopened, no doubt, but I'm grateful I can explore mine again.

A few days ago before work, I decided to visit my favorite place and pick up some new reads, with a mask of course. The parking lot was packed as, without a doubt, everyone missed it! I did place a few holds that I am still waiting on but nonetheless, I was able to pick out a couple of new books I have had my eyes on for some time, "Permanent Record" by Mary H. K. Choi and "Hungry Hearts: 13 Tales of Food & Love." I took a course back at my local community college called "Children's Literature" and fell in love with Young Adult books.

While being back at the library was the happiest I've been in a while, it is still a far way from things being back to normal. But for the time being, I'll just haul a bag of books home and continue to enjoy the adventures that await me.
