Celebrating veterans who gave their time, or their life to keep our country safe.

On November 12, 2018, we will be honoring all our veterans from wars that our country had with other countries, no matter how large or how small the wars were.

On the 11th of November 1918, the 1st World War with Germany came to an end when the peace treaty was signed in Compiegne, France.

The day was called Armistice Day and we celebrated this day until 1954 when the name was changed to Veterans Day.

This was done to honor all veterans from all wars, not from the 1st World War only.

Some people wanted to drop this holiday because we had other wars since the 1st World War. and it did not make sense to celebrate the end of 1st World War and not the end of the other wars—the name Armistice Day was then changed to Veterans Day.

In this way we will be celebrating the men and women, who gave their time and life to protect our country.

In years past, in some small towns there would be a parade in the morning, a football game in the afternoon, and a dinner and dance at night.

After time the holiday in big cities had only a parade and that’s all. But still in small communities, there is a parade in the mornings, a carnival in the afternoon, and a dance honoring the veterans of the area.

On Monday go to your local celebrations to say thank you to the veterans for their time in the service, and to your local cemetery to say thank you to the veterans for giving their life for keeping our country safe.

Veterans Day originated as "Armistice Day" on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary marking the end of World War I.
