A Kidnapper Runs Into A Karate Studio . . .

It's like the set up to a silly joke.

In the event someone is on the street in danger and needs to find help, where are they going to turn? They may get lucky and run into law enforcement, or an armed good Samaritan. But in the case of one North Carolina woman, her aid came from skilled martial artists.

When a man tried to force a woman into his car to kidnap her, the woman broke free and a chase ensued. Fortunately for the woman, (but unfortunately for the man), the chase ended in Bushiken Karate Charlotte Dojo this past Thursday night. The woman reached the dojo during the end of a class, and explained the situation.

The kidnapper seemed to feel lucky that night, and attempted to take on Randall Ephraim, the head karate instructor. While the martial arts showdown took place, police were summoned and they arrested the man (while taking him to the hospital, as he sustained some injuries from Ephraim).

Too often, a story beginning like this would have gotten much more unfortunate coverage on the local news. But instead, we get the treat of a feel-good, amusing story. Regarding this incident, I would bet that Mr. Miyagi would be proud.
