Stray Kids, a fourth generation K-pop group, delights fans with its latest album. Get ready to hear “thunderous” applause.

Stray Kids, an eight-member male K-pop group, has been both breaking boundaries and setting records since their debut in 2017 with JYP Entertainment. Their new album, “NOEASY,” which was released on August 23, is everything that fans have come to expect.

Stray Kids’ growth within the last year is astounding. From the release of their song “God’s Menu” in June last year, which now has over 260 million views on YouTube, to “Back Door” in September, which has recently surpassed 200 million views, they’ve been opening doors for new and old fans alike.

“NOEASY” has become the most pre-ordered album in the history of JYP Entertainment with over 930,000 sales as of August 23. 355,946 of those were sold just on its day of release. In comparison, their last album sold 233,381 copies in one day. Furthermore, “NOEASY” has topped iTunes Top Albums charts in 40 regions and the title track has also secured the number one spot on iTunes Top Songs in 44 regions.

The album’s title track, “Thunderous,” has the trademark sound of Stray Kids’ “mala-flavored” genre (hot, spicy and addictive), and the music video hit 10 million views within twenty-four hours and is still rapidly rising. But apart from hard-hitting tracks like “CHEESE” and “DOMINO,” the album also has a softer side to it with summery songs like “Surfin’” or “The View.” Also, while Stray Kids has been known for having a strong rap line, their vocals really shine in this album with songs like “Secret Secret” and “Gone Away.”

One of the reasons Stray Kids stands apart is because they are nearly entirely self-producing. 3RACHA, a sub-unit containing members Bang Chan, Changbin, and Han, do the majority of the song arrangement and lyric writing. In fact, Bang Chan is the first fourth generation K-pop star to be credited with over 100 songs by the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA). A fan has even analyzed their writing credits and concluded that Bang Chan is the current fastest producing idol.

Many people still think K-pop music is all the same or you can only be a fan if you’re a teenage girl, but Stray Kids and other groups are proving that’s not true. They’ve attracted fans of all ages, have experimented with a number of genres, and even captured the attention of famous celebrities such as Ryan Reynolds.

While Stray Kids’ music is definitely a huge component of their popularity, one of the reasons they’ve maintained such a devoted fan following and seen incredible growth is because of the members themselves. Unlike a lot of artists these days, they have very few love songs and write uplifting or inspiring lyrics that their fans can relate to, whether they’re about personal struggles or finding one’s own way. Despite being “idols,” they remain honest to themselves and their fans and continue to develop music that feels true to them regardless of the criticism they may face.
