I don't get too excited about Fantasy Football and Vegas odds. Smart players and coaches play to win, not to beat point spreads or run up stats. That's why I only pick winners and losers, and last weekend, my picking was pretty good - 12-2.

Rams running back Todd Gurley said it best: "Man, forget fantasy and forget Vegas today. We got the win, so that's all that matters."

Gurley could have scored a TD near the end of the Rams' win over the Packers, but he decided instead to only take the first down and run out the clock - a sure thing that did not even involve a kickoff. It probably wasn't necessary for him to take the points off the board, but I liked his intention.

The undefeated Rams are running away with the NFC West title, but it is far too soon to start talking about their possibly running the table - or even locking up the #1 seed. Next up for the Rams is a major showdown against the Saints.

The Saints increased their lead for the #2 seed in the NFC by beating the Vikings, who have now dropped to #7. Here is the way it looks right now for the NFC's six playoff spots:

Rams           8-0
Saints          6-1
Redskins      5-2
Panthers      5-2
Bears          4-3
Seahawks    4-3

If the regular season ended today, the Eagles, Falcons, and Vikings - contenders a year ago - would be out of the playoffs. But it is only the halfway mark; there is plenty of time for teams to rise and fall. The Cowboys, Packers, and Seahawks also need to have a strong second half. Perhaps the second biggest game next weekend will be the Chargers visiting the 4-4 Seahawks.

The Chiefs lead the AFC in wins, but have not shaken those pesky Chargers in their own division.  The Patriots are inching closer to grasping the AFC East crown, having beaten division rivals Dolphins and Bills.  I would classify the other two divisions as completely up for grabs.

Here are the current leaders for the six AFC playoff spots:

Chiefs         7-1
Patriots       6-2
Steelers      4-2-1
Chargers     5-2
Texans        5-3
Bengals       5-3

The Jaguars, Titans, Ravens, Seahawks, and Dolphins need to get busy if they want to get back in the playoff picture.

With eight or nine games to go - depending on whether a team has already had its bye - it is too early for most teams to panic or start planning their January vacations. But we are now in November; for those who are serious about contending for the title, it's time to 'just win, baby.'
