Following the Tree of Life synagogue massacre in Pittsburgh last Saturday, Joseph Gelman urges the American Jewish community to reject politicization and instead work with people of goodwill across the political spectrum--including President Trump.

Last week’s tragic massacre at Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh generated strife in the American Jewish community after some so-called “Jewish Leaders” blamed President Trump for the attack in its aftermath.

Joseph Gelman, IDF paratrooper, advisor to the past-president and chairman of AIPAC, author of CONFIDENTIAL: The Life of a Secret Agent Turned Hollywood Tycoon, Arnon Milchan, founder of the Israel-USA Network and Orde Wingate Initiative, is concerned.

He still remembers the discovery of a bomb planted in his Mobile, Alabama synagogue during services in the 1960s, and believes this tragedy highlights dangers of partisan politicization in Jewish communal life.

“I’m not going to participate in any conspiracy theories,” he says. “But they are exploiting a tragedy at the height of election season. It’s probably to be expected, but we should tell the truth. They didn’t give it five minutes of contemplation, it went nuclear politically immediately, as they tried to blame Trump, who’s probably the most Jewish President we’ve ever had.”

He explains: “The man’s daughter is Jewish, his son-in-law is Jewish, and unlike most liberal Jews, his grandchildren are Jewish. He’s not only philo-Semitic, he’s a Zionist and unwavering supporter of the Jewish state. He’s done more for Israel than any President has dared to do, including moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem. His Treasury secretary is Jewish, his senior policy advisor is Jewish, his top Middle East advisor is Jewish, his Ambassador to Israel is Jewish--what more do you want? In reality he’s far more Jewish in spirit than many of his so-called Jewish critics.”

Gelman worries that Jewish Leftists plan to bait the President into making anti-Semitic remarks, creating a self-fulfilling prophecy, thus driving the President to snap under constant partisan attacks.

“They’re trying to turn him into an anti-Semite through never-ending claims of guilt-by-association,” says Gelman. “Every five minutes they call for him to condemn White Supremacy, as if he doesn’t already condemn White Supremacy--When did you stop beating your wife?”

“If you have a group of people who are constantly harping on how evil you are, eventually you are going to resent it, that’s what they’re counting on,” notes Gelman. “The President cannot allow himself to fall into that trap.”

He believes that although his opponents are desperate, President Trump cannot let them succeed.

“All you have to do is look at the pictures of Bill Clinton and Barack Obama in the company of Louis Farrakhan to understand the depths of the depravity and hypocrisy of this situation,” he observes. “The gunman was not a Republican. He was a Trump-Hater on social media. And in those two respects he has more in common with the President’s haters than the President’s supporters.”

He urges American Jewish leaders to reject politicization and work with people of goodwill across the political spectrum, including President Trump.

“Ingratitude is an ugly trait,” he concludes.
