Joe Biden: Profile in Cowardice

Running for the highest office in the land, the former vice president has been almost invisible on the campaign trail.
On Monday, Joe Biden’s campaign announced the Democratic presidential nominee would not be attending any media events or press conferences this week, ostensibly to prepare for Thursday’s debate with President Trump in Nashville.
Biden’s curious decision to take so much time away from the spotlight a mere two weeks from the presidential election more than likely has something to do with the New York Post’s recent exposé on Hunter Biden, the troubled son of President Obama’s former second banana. After all, the would-be president of the United States has essentially dodged questions from the few reporters who have dared to bring up the subject of the younger Biden allegedly engaging in some influence peddling during the time his old man was vice president of the United States.
This past Friday in Michigan, a testy Biden snapped at a television reporter who was the first to directly ask about reported emails suggesting his son cashed in overseas on the former vice president’s name. “I know you’d ask it,” Biden retorted. “I have no response. It’s another smear campaign, right up your alley. Those are the questions you always ask.”
It’s an ironic response in that the vast majority of journalists – apparently lacking any sense of professional pride – have assiduously avoided interrogating Biden on the subject. In fact, Biden was not asked a single question about The Post’s bombshell story on his son’s overseas business dealings during the 90-minute ABC News town hall held in Miami the evening before.
Things didn’t get any better over the weekend in North Carolina, where Biden was all too happy to answer a probing query about what flavor milkshake he got (really), but scurried away like a rat when another reporter had the temerity to do his job by attempting to ask Biden about The Post’s story on his son’s business dealings during the Obama administration.
Bottom line: Joe Biden is essentially hiding from a press corps that treats him with kid gloves. This doesn’t exactly inspire confidence that a President Biden would be able to stand up to the extreme far-left element of his own party, let alone face down America’s foreign adversaries on the world stage.
Then again, the Biden-Harris campaign – remember Kamala Harris, the Democratic vice presidential nominee? – has long felt like it belongs on the side of a milk carton, given the duo’s penchant for holing up away from the media and the American people throughout their presidential push.
Biden’s thinking is not entirely illogical, however, in that polls consistently show he is ahead of Trump as Election Day draws near. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? And with the fourth estate prosecuting the effort on behalf of Biden, the former vice president and his team may feel very confident in sitting back and coasting to victory. Still, there’s something off-putting about the prospect of rewarding laziness.
