This past Sunday's Super Bowl was filled with highlights of both the good and the ugly. The Latin music singers Jennifer Lopez and Shakira have been criticized for their Half Time performance. This reflects this generation of shaming women for their expressions in entertainment.

Many took to the Internet to shame both Jennifer Lopez and Shakira for their appearance and their overall showmanship that was presented during the Super Bowl LIV's Half Time show. Traditionally musicians are flamboyant when they are on stage; from their costumes to their setlist, they continue to pave the way for future generations of musicians.

The outfits that these women chose to wear had been a fashion statement of advocating for women expressing themselves the way they want. To be comfortable in their own skin, to celebrate their heritages in any lens you look through, they wanted to have a performance worth talking about.

The outrage that came from that show has been featured in more headlines than the Super Bowl itself. From J-Lo's pole dancing to Shakira's belly dancing it was an entertaining performance and had been a statement of their roots. Shakira wore a costume and had a dance and chant that represented the Lebanese side of her background.

The backlash that they received came from those who oversexualized and undermined their womanhood. The conversation of how they choose to represent themselves is not a reflection of how they view themselves. This commentary has grown to be outdated, it degrades how women want to express themselves, in any shape they want to. There does not need to be this constant shame, embarrassment or lack of awareness for how the media portrays women and how others personally have issues with it.

In any case, the halftime show was fabulous and was worthy of talking about. They carried the crowd well and were a great addition to the overall Super Bowl experience this year. In a society that can easily tear each other apart, let's celebrate the things we can control and inspire others.
