In today's vernacular, conspiracy theories have become a bit of a taboo, associated with tinfoil-hatted crackpots. But the world we live in has some strange resources that are hidden in plain sight: there is a surprising volume of videos, writings, and facts, once well known, that the passage of time has buried. In my new series, Hiding In Plain Sight, I plan on showing some of the crazier parts of our world that are easy to find if you look. Today's episode features a bizarre beauty treatment.

Popular culture admires celebrities for their charm, sometimes their talent, and especially their looks. Celebrities can be seen in commercials advertising new beauty products or found on TV or online talking about their beauty regimen. They are among the go-to figures we think of when we want to reference beautiful people in our society.

Some people may be jealous of these celebrities. It is certainly strange how some of these people look so good at 40, 50, or 60+ years of age. But the tricks and routines these people have can be difficult, restrictive, and downright bizarre. Some may follow an intense exercise regimen. Others will follow a restrictive diet. And some, like Sandra Bullock, use recycled baby parts.

Bullock undergoes a certain type of facial treatment, which first results in a TCA chemical peel, followed by micro-needling. During the micro-needling, injections of Epidermal Growth Factors (EGFs) from stem cells are injected into the skin to repair it. After a day or so, her face looks youthful and attractive.

Of course, the scientific terms make the process sound sophisticated, and explain little about what these EGFs are. In reality? Sandra Bullock injects a formula made with recycled baby parts into her face to look young.

But don't take my word for it. Watch her and Ellen discuss the procedure on The Ellen DeGeneres Show

The story was broadcast on national television and circulated by various mainstream news outlets. Yet somehow, the strangeness of this procedure has been underplayed, forgotten, and is still performed. How this is considered an acceptable, moral procedure is beyond me.

While being forgotten by many, the world has preserved this information, which allows us to evaluate and judge it. The bizarre Hollywood beauty practices are hiding in plain sight, and need only a careful eye to reveal.
