Gearing Up for New Years

Rather than start with resolutions, I'd rather kick off 2019 with a task list that is complete. They say in sports, finish strong no matter what. Let's do this.

I know what you’re saying, “we haven’t even finished Christmas yet!” I’m well aware of the calendar date. But here’s the thing, I have never been big on New Year’s Resolutions. I am big on goal setting and getting off to a good start.

This means winding down 2018 organized and ready to go. It’s easy to get lost in the mania of the holidays and don’t get me wrong, I’m looking forward to spending some extra time with my son. But I don’t want January 2, 2019, to roll around and have me wonder what the first step it for my growth during the year.

I have both business goals and personal goals.

On the personal side, my goals have to do with getting in better shape. But not the typical New Year’s resolution. It was this time last year that I found myself recovering from a serious climbing gym fall. It took me three surgeries, six months of not walking and a lot of physical therapy to get myself back to normal mobility in my knee. Now it’s time to get the strength back.

On the business side, I’ve decided to place a mental wager with myself. The bet? I’ll call it the 12-Week Blog Challenge. I enjoy writing for my clients but it is time to create some content of my own, use my professional skills and see where the algorithms leave me after 3 months. Sometimes you have to challenge yourself professionally to grow. I think it will be a fun case study of SEO trends in early 2019.

With lofty goals we must clear the weeds out of the field – I’m sure some cliché phrase goes something like that. That means these last couple weeks are about wrapping up business financials, cleaning up my desk of lingering tasks I didn’t want to deal with and ultimately, freeing up mental energy so I can focus on growth.

All those little things that you keep putting off like changing the cable company or putting bills on automatic payment. Don’t you hate bothering with those little things? Me too! But that’s why I’ve made my list and I’m checking it twice to see which providers have been naughty or nice. Ha! Couldn’t resist.

Seriously. I challenge you to take some time and write out a few things you would like to start the New Year already complete. Heck, with all the mania already going on, why not add one task every day to just get done. Trust me, your recovery will be the same the week after Christmas regardless.

Join me. Set the tone for 2019 and share a couple things you want to knock off that list.
