Every American Owes The Brave People On Flight 93 To Watch The J6 Select Committee Hearings

If you are not tuning in to the January 6th Select Committee Hearings, then you are ignoring the opportunity to learn more about Donald Trump’s and his accomplices’ traitorous behavior in trying to steal the 2020 election from Joe Biden and the American people. It is every American’s obligation to watch the hearings and do some critical thinking about what happened and engage in a public discussion of the topic.

Do you think Donald Trump, the members of congress, and insurrectionists who stood in the way of the peaceful transfer of presidential power remember the story of Flight 93 and the passengers who sacrificed their lives to protect the Capitol? Donald Trump does.

Nearly two years ago, he spoke a the Flight 93 National Memorial near Shanksville, Pennsylvania about the bravery of the late airplane passengers.

“When terrorists raced to destroy the seat of our democracy, the 40 of Flight 93 did the most American of things: They took a vote, and then they acted. Together, they charged the cockpit, they confronted the pure evil, and in their last act on this Earth, they saved our Capitol.”

The former President’s reverence for the passengers’ defense of the Capitol against terrorists and for our democracy stands in stark contrast to his stance in the aftermath of the 2020 election, when he not only encouraged his followers to attack the Capitol but allegedly threw a tantrum when his security team refused to let him join in.

The 9/11 terrorist attacks came nine months after Al Gore peacefully conceded the presidential election to George W. Bush following a controversial recount in Florida that the Supreme Court ultimately shut down. Nineteen years later, when Donald Trump was called to participate in a peaceful transfer of power to Joe Biden, he instead summoned his devotees to Washington with a singular sinister objective in mind: to unlawfully hold onto power by any means necessary.

He urged them to march to the Capitol as Congress was certifying the election. He promised he’d join them, approximately 10,000 people flocked to the Capitol and 2,000 entered the building, desecrating and damaging it. Five Americans, including a police officer, were killed and some 140 officers suffered injuries.

The passengers and crew on Flight 93 knew that terrorists had attacked the World Trade Center. They knew that their hijackers were hurtling toward another target. They had minutes to come up with a plan, well aware that they would most certainly die in any case, and managed to engineer a plane crash into a Pennsylvania field.

The passengers’ bravery saved the lives of countless people working at the Capitol that morning. Moreover, their actions preserved the seat of our democratically elected government. The resting place, where those 40 brave people died, is marked by a 17,000-pound boulder, which can only be viewed from afar. 1 of 2
