Fighting Boredom

A simple list of ideas to try out with your children and/or siblings while in quarantine.

In the current day and age we tend to reach for the remote or nearest electronic device as a source of entertainment when stuck inside. Here is a list of simple ideas to try out while bored from watching that sixth or seventh re-run of Tumble Leaf or whatever your younger family members enjoy seeing on the boob-tube.

1) Get out the Glue

Most people, when thinking on it, go "Oh no!" as when glue is involved that means glitter isn't far behind. I won't lie, that's exactly what I'm talking about. Get out all those scraps of paper, felt, fabric, maybe even foil or parchment paper! It's time to do a few crafts like paper doll chains, puppets, and even regular old drawing. Glitter will keep anybody busy.

2) A pillow here, no, there!

It's time to raid your linen closet and strip the bed people, because we're making forts. Find a nice place to build your kingdom of blankets and pillows. Living rooms should be asked about to parents before you jump in. Now, the best part about this activity is that there is no wrong way to do it, so don't be disappointed if it isn't giant or perfect. This is for fun!

3) Time to dance

Yes, dancing. I know you're wondering what I'm thinking saying such a thing but listen. The best way to really boost up those creative vibes and slay that boredom is by getting your body grooving. Music is fun and helps to connect any and everyone with its tunes, dance a bit and feel that musical freedom.

4) "Art thee acting yet?"

If you're having a moment of brilliance then get the dress up clothes out and start that wacky acting of yours. This is one of the best ways to keep people occupied for hours as any good play should and could do to you. And don't be embarrassed if you look silly, it's all in good fun.

5) Yummy Sweets

Baking is something most people think about but end up against because of the mess it tends to make. Don't be denying it, I know it, you thought the same at some point. Take out that old cook book and flip through the pages for a sweet treat to make or even go looking in your pantry for a quick-mix box. If a batch of brownies, sheet of cookies or tower of cakes don't interest you, then make some cold snacks instead. Grab that bottle of juice or flat soda stuck under cabinets and give it new life as a batch of ice pops. Yum~!

If these don't garner your attention, then don't worry about it. These are just my ideas on a few simply-done activities with the younger generation as an attempt to keep from going stir-crazy at home.
