According to Acumen research and Consulting, the coronary stents market value to reach over $16.88 billion by 2025; the market is poised to grow at a CAGR of around 7% from 2018 to 2025.

The coronary stent prevents heart attacks caused by the contraction of coronary arteries. The material used for the stent is cobalt alloy or stainless steel tube and is attached to small balloons that give support for proper blood flow and protection of vessel walls. Other treatments required for coronary heart disease include pharmaceuticals, balloon angioplasty, and stenting of coronary artery bypass grafting.

Mostly, heart patients prefer stenting as compared to by-pass heart surgery, as it is minimally invasive surgery and performed with the support of local low sedation and anesthesia. The rising frequency of heart disease is the main driver for the growth of the coronary stents industry. Other factors that are driving market growth are rising numbers of acute coronary syndromes, hypertension, diabetes, and genetic diseases like obesity that are prevailing in all age groups due to unhealthy lifestyles. Moreover, the rise in demand of compensation policies by the government among patients is also responsible for the continuous growth of the global coronary stents market. However, the high cost of a single stent and implantation cost hamper the growth of the market.

Drug-Eluting Stents Are Expected To Capture Major Share

The coronary stents market is divided into drug-eluting stents, bare-metal stents, and bio-absorbable stents. The major share of the coronary stents market will be held by drug-eluting stents in the forecast period, owing to enhanced benefits compared to bare-metal stents and bio-absorbable stents. Drug-eluting stents prevent post-operation trauma and other complications because they reduce the risk of restenosis and other major disorders. They also have a wide array of applications including for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), diabetes and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) that will boost the growth in the sector. Advanced technology for improving patient’s outcomes and development of next generation of drug-eluting stents will spur demand for drug-eluting stents in the forecasted period.

Asia-Pacific Region Is Expected To Be the Fastest Growing Market for Coronary Stents During The Forecasted Period

The coronary stents market in Asia-Pacific is projected to witness the highest growth during the forecast phase. There is a high demand for coronary stents in India mainly due to the approval by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for new stents, and also the increasing number of PCI procedures in hospitals.

In India, the coronary stents market accounted for significant share growth due to rising health consciousness and increased health care expenditures. Additionally, major factors of macroeconomics such as the increase in FDI and government compensation policies in the health care sector are also estimated to drive growth in the market. Other drivers include rising affordability of coronary heart disease treatment and rapidly growing medical technology.

However, the recurrence of abnormal narrowing artery after angioplasty is a major factor expected to restrain overall growth of the market during the forecast period.
