Does Truth Matter, Anymore?

Every day Americans are bombarded with information that we can no longer trust. This information is re-writing our history and causing us to mis-trust each other. We no longer search for truth but readily believe what we want to believe, with or without the truth. We must decide, does truth matter, anymore? The answer: yes!

Our previous president and professional community organizer, Mr. Obama, recently received an “Award for Ethics in Government,” in Chicago of all places, for which he used the occasion to publicly disrespect our current president.

From the man who previously stated that his administration was scandal-free, we got Fast and Furious, the IRS controversy, Benghazi, the Veterans Administration, the tarmac meeting, and so many others highlighted by the Boston Globe’s Jeff Jacoby.

He continued demonstrating his ethics by attacking President Trump and taking credit for our now robust economy. The only scandal that never became a scandal during Obama’s presidency was the caging and separation of illegal alien children from their parents, for which we have seen 2014 photographs and other reports.

Dan Bongino, a former Secret Service agent who resigned during the Obama Administration, stated on a television interview that Obama was one of the “most divisive presidents in American history.” Using identity politics, he split the American people to pit groups against each other.

Going beyond the scandals and his play on identity politics, Obama blames Trump for not following protocol of previous presidents -- yet Obama insists on not following established protocols regarding former presidents staying out of the current administration’s business.

His comments at his award presentation are the most current example of him not showing public support for the current president or our country. Let’s also not forget the numerous reports of Obama being all about him.

In his latest speech, he referred to himself 102 times in a 64-minute speech. That does not convey much of a team player, as also documented in his State of the Union addresses during his presidency.

I cannot account for every “untruth” Obama made during the course of his reign. But I am sure we all remember the “you can keep your doctor” and “this will save you money” on the Obamacare debacle. The end of his time in office, again, if we are discussing ethics, is still coming to light with the so-called Russia interference, the China influence which was ignored, and the Obama-appointed directors and leaders in the DOJ and the FBI that continues to unravel every day.

Based on just these highlighted facts, it is difficult to acknowledge the merits of Obama receiving an ethics award. Ethics, after all, is defined as “moral principles that govern a person’s behavior or conduct.” It would appear that such an award would have to be based on “untruths.”

Ethically, can he claim credit for our now booming economy? Did his lack of economic growth help our now historic growth? Was he truthful when he stated our manufacturing jobs were lost forever and we needed to move on?

So, what “truth” do we accept? Or, as stated in the title, does it even matter? If there is to be civil discourse again, we must focus on truth. If truth is relative, that there is no absolute truth, then we have nothing to gauge our government or our lives.
