Dems Shed Crocodile Tears Over Allegedly Unfair Media Coverage

Three presidential contenders come unglued at their allies in the press for not sufficiently toeing the party line.

About a week ago, Democratic presidential candidates Bernie Sanders, Beto O’Rourke and Julian Castro gave the news media a piece of their collective mind for not being sufficiently compliant when it comes to covering not only their campaigns, but that of President Trump as well.

The media has shown bias toward them, they claim, and favoritism toward the president’s re-election bid, which is hilarious given the press in America is practically an arm of the Democratic National Committee at this point. To anyone with two brain cells to rub together, it’s obvious the Fourth Estate loathes Trump.

Three recent events related to the journalism profession make it very difficult to feel sorry for the three amigos in terms of media malpractice – IMAGINE THE WORLD’S TINIEST VIOLIN HERE – and casts aspersions on the notion the media is even capable of offering fair and balanced political news coverage.

An August 12 employee town hall meeting of The New York Times leaked to Slate, which has published a transcript of the meeting, indicates Dan Baquet, the paper’s executive editor, plans a shift in coverage when it comes to the president: from portraying Trump as a Russian stooge to portraying Trump as a racist.

Of course, the former didn’t work out in that special counsel Robert Mueller failed to find any evidence the Trump campaign conspired or coordinated with Russia to fix the 2016 election. No doubt the Times’ leadership will be equally disappointed to find out Trump is not a member of the Ku Klux Klan or any white supremacist group.

The town hall meeting was inspired, at least in part, by a headline many on the left felt was insufficiently anti-Trump. After the El Paso shootings, when the president denounced white supremacy in no uncertain terms, the Times published a page-one story with the headline, "Trump Urges Unity Vs. Racism."

Naturally, the left’s outrage mob – including some Democratic presidential candidates – took umbrage at the accurate headline. Of course, the Times caved, changing the headline to “Assailing Hate But Not Guns.” Because that doesn’t at all come across as the mainstream media taking orders from the Democratic National Committee.

And speaking of the El Paso shootings, the media couldn’t be bothered to focus on the portions of the shooter’s manifesto not suitable in blaming Trump for the gunman’s murderous deed. If it doesn’t implicate Trump, it doesn’t get a bump!

Meanwhile, disgraced newsman Dan Rather – who obviously views himself as some sort of journalism sage – is telling those in the business to report on what Trump “really believes” and not what he actually says during speeches. Pretending to know what goes on in Trump’s head is bad advice that wouldn’t pass muster in a Journalism 101 course.

Bottom line: Democrats have it made with the media. They should stop pretending otherwise.
